Mara Altman has me turning pages at night, following her every move on her quest for an orgasm. That's right, her debut novel "Thanks for Coming" (Harper Collins) is the memoir of her search for an orgasm, and it was a most delightful gift to land in my mailbox. However, perhaps a more interesting story is on her "quest for a book deal." Mara, an ex-Village Voice writer, started on her book journey in 2007 when Gawker's Emily Gould not only dug into her attempts at a book deal, but at her inability to get off. We are more than happy to see Mara accomplish the former. As for the latter? I'm only halfway through her journey, but will keep you posted. The book will be available for purchase on the 14th of this month. We will be joining Mara on April 21st at her first event in Park Slope. I am excited to meet the woman that not only took on an orgasm, but Emily Gould, a perhaps more intimidating challenge!
This novel is one of the bravest ones I have read. It's shockingly candid, and a great read for any woman who is discovering their sexuality (aren't we all?) as well as the men that love them.
