A cloud of smoke wafting through the air, the din of conversation, philosophy, and flirtation rising up to meet the music, a strong drink to fuel your dancing by candlelight. Nothing quite beats a night out in Paris, and after a year of partygoing put on hold, nothing quite seems so desirable.
For those craving an especially sultry and chic after-hours moment, well, Diptyque can help hold you over. The iconic French fragrance house has just unveiled its latest Eau de Parfum in honor of its 60th anniversary, and not only will it whisk you away to a late-night bar in Paris, it will also take you back in time.
Let your senses behold Orphéon, an olfactory journey to the swinging 1960s in the legendary Latin Quarter. The new fragrance is named for the bohemian haunt beloved by the brand's original founders - the place where their friendship was formed amid the eclectic crowd of artists, musicians, writers, and fashionistas. Yves Coueslant, Christiane Gautrot, and Desmond Knox-Leet, the cosmopolitan trio behind the haute perfumerie, opened their very first boutique next door, and, when the Orphéon eventually shut its doors, purchased the property to expand their store, making the watering hole a forever-part of Diptyque's history.
While records and memories of the locale have been lost to time, the maison has revived its vibrant legacy with the help of perfumer Olivier Pescheux. Composed like a tableau, the scent embodies everything we love (and miss) about the nightlife scene - the buzzing energy, the intimacy between revelers, the warmth of the atmosphere. With notes of cedar, tonka bean, juniper berries, and a flash of jasmine, Orphéon recalls the vapors of a cocktail, the smoke from a cigarette, the mingling of men's cologne and women's makeup, and the woody interiors of a familiar bar that feels like home.
Glamorous, sumptuous, and, as always, genderless, Orphéon Eau de Parfum is the perfect accompaniment to a festive evening that lasts from 8 pm to 8 am (just like the nights its namesake was famous for), but, until then, we can always spritz it on and indulge in a little Parisian debauchery from home. God knows we need it.
