Forget Pilates classes and gym sessions. This year, everyone is getting ready for beach season with a trip to the surgeon - to reverse their butt lifts. After years of striving for Kardashian-esque behinds, it seems the women of New York are ready to say bye-bye booty.
According to the New York Post, posh plastic surgeons across Manhattan are seeing an uptick in requests to dissolve derrières at up to $25,000 a pop. "I commonly have to shrink and tighten the buttock along with sculpting adjacent areas to give a more proportionate and elegant look," one doctor told the paper, adding, "surgery should aim for timeless beauty."
Despite the infamous Brazilian Butt Lift increasing in popularity over the past decade, this new shift in aesthetic is no surprise considering the recent Ozempic craze and unfortunately renewed aspirations toward '90s-era thinness. Back in November, the Post ran another story with the controversial claim that "heroin chic is back," pointing out that even the Kardashians were seemingly shrinking their curves.
And butts aren't the only thing disappearing. Overfilled cheeks, lips, and chins are also suddenly out of fashion. As The Cut reported in February, everyone appears to be dissolving their "pillowy" Instagram faces in favor of the sucked-out angular look à la Bella Hadid.
Of course, all of this ignores the one glaring issue: unlike clothing, makeup, and even hairstyles, bodies aren't meant to be "trends." But for those who have the budget, spring cleaning their silhouettes is as easy as spring cleaning their closets.
In any case, we can expect to see a lot less buns out when the sun's out this summer. Our condolences to Sir Mix-a-Lot.
