#NariWard’s “We the People,” written in Arabic script with discarded shoelaces 👟 presented by #LehmannMaupin @lehmannmaupin . Ward is a visual poet of ordinary items. He doesn’t just utilise found objects; he steeps them with political, historical and emotional importance. Ward’s original version of this work (2011), written in English, refers to the famous introductory words of the US Constitution. The shoelaces are fraying and coming apart at the seams, but they also infuse these words — written and signed solely by white men, some of them slaveholders — with colour and diversity: an endorsement of democratic inclusivity in a profoundly troubled time 🇺🇸 . 📷: @museumiadventure
