A New Realism Curated By Glenn Adamson
This exhibit contains nine contemporary "realist" artisans, meaning that they deal with art in a historical context and as “individualistic pragmatists,” each incorporating industrial design into their work.
Two names you'll want to pay special attention to are Tanya Aguiniga, whose work involves thousands of dyed fibers and hairs exploring the roles of women, and Paul S Briggs, whose work is in response to Amanda Gorman’s poem, "The Hill We Climb." Briggs's work takes on the incarceration of Black men in the U.S. and is a deeply moving piece you won't want to miss.
On view at Friedman Benda until July 2nd.
