Tonight, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival starts the second week of its annual concert series in the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church with "Shifting Ensembles," which features wind ensemble and piano pieces by Mozart, Dvorak, and Kenji Bunch. While it's a local show, the BCMF is filled with some of the nation's most renowned musicians, and, deliberately keeping the audience and venues small enables each spectator to fully experience the music.
The festival was started in 1984 by the New Zealand flutist Marya Martin and her husband Ken Davidson as a way for the couple to be together in the summer, and it's since grown from a 2 to a 13 show series. If you find classical music pretty but too austere, you will love these low-key, accessible concerts.
