The stores may have all their fall merch on display but as long as dudes are fully-manking and we're day drinking outside, it's still summer for us. And music fest season isn't over either, guys! Sunset Strip Music Fest starts today, Mad Decent Block party is Saturday, and over the weekend we hit up Pacific Festival 2011 in OC where we caught some stellar shows by artists like Cut Copy and Snoop and bumped into some familiar faces who also ventured to the other side of the Orange Curtain for the day.
For its second year, the day-long annual Pacific Festival held at a lakeside No Man's Land in OC's backcountry boasted a lineup of over 50 artists and bands across five stages. As Pac Fest newbies, after an intimate moment in a thorough frisking from security on the way in, we caught some evening acts and headliners including Bag Raiders, Ghostland Observatory, Snoop and Cut Copy. The best way to describe it is like a way, way, scaled down Coachella with less fake hippies and more bro guys (because it's Orange County). Even at the last two shows, Snoop followed by Cut Copy which ran til almost 2am, there were manks aplenty in the audience.
The Dog Father had probably just had five blunts to the face when he and his sweet Uncle Junebug took the stage during which he talked about smoking weed at least four times outside of his song lyrics AND did a little Nate Dogg tribute. Cut Copy put on an incredible set to close out the night (and the final stop on their tour before heading back to Australia) with songs from each of their albums. Despite having been on the road performing for the last several months, Dan Whitford had every bit of energy on stage as he did when we saw them perform in April at Coachella, maybe even more. We'll definitely be attending Pacific Fest next year. Until then, enjoy these photos from the night...
