Beat Junkies @ Echoplex
The list of turntable crews who have been more influential than the World Famous Beat Junkies to hip-hop over the last twenty years is minimal, if it even exists at all. Founded in '92 and associated since then with bestselling and beloved artists from Dilated Peoples to Cypress Hill to Peanut Butter Wolf, the Beat Junkies have won pretty much every turntablism competition you can think of, toured the world, and inspired any DJ who holds on to the idea that a Macbook can never replace a set of Technics and milk crates full of records. They're celebrating their 20th anniversary with a special show at the Echoplex, and I would be outright shocked if many of the big names in hip-hop with whom they've worked over the years don't show up to join in on the fun.
