The Beach Boys @ Hollywood Bowl
While The Beach Boys are obviously properly appreciated by most music fans, there's nevertheless a not insignificant amount of people who consider them to be more of a novelty group than a genuinely classic and sophisticated American pop group, one of the most influential of all time. And while three or four sentences in a weekly concert guide is hardly the space to convert nonbelievers, I can at least say that it would do my heart some serious good to see my generation reasonably represented when the Boys play the Hollywood Bowl Saturday night as part of their 50th anniversary tour. Mogwai @ The Fonda
Did you guys not go through a Mogwai phase in high school? That's really a shame, because their quiet/loud, slow building and often instrumental rock songs are not only a great introduction into the world of "post" rock (a label they've always rejected), but rather are haunting compositions all their own, with as much care and memorability as the more straightforwardly-structured music of their peers. As a responsible community citizen, I probably shouldn't tell you to go to this show on drugs, but, well, I strongly suspect you wouldn't have a bad time if you did. [Details] [via]
