The Pain of Being Paris
The biggest shocking reveal of the film is the trauma that Paris struggles with on a daily basis. In response to her party girl phase, Paris was sent away to isolating wilderness camps and abusive "emotional growth" schools. What her parents meant to be a reality check for their out of control teen became a life altering experience which haunts their daughter to this day. Paris talks at length about suffering from horrible insomnia, recurring nightmares, anxiety, trust issues and more.
As is often the case with survivors of abuse, Paris has had difficulty understanding and finding healthy relationships. Off the top of her head, she confirmed that at least five of her romantic relationships were abusive. The film even shows a clip of her then boyfriend Aleks Novakovic acting emotionally abusive to her at a festival.
At one point, Paris is going through a mountain of about 30 MacBooks, explaining that anytime she gets a new boyfriend she gets a new computer. Naturally drawn to controlling individuals, she's found that too many times boyfriends have tried to break into them or demanded to know her password that it's just how she's come to protect herself.
She also puts cameras up in her home before her boyfriend comes to stay. Anxious to leave him alone in her house, Paris wants to be able to check in on what he's up to from a live stream on her phone. Which like, seems pretty paranoid, but he also turns out to be the worst, so...
