Lollapalooza
Where/When Is It?: Grant Park, Chicago (August 3-5).
Type of Music: Set in the heart of Chicago's Grant Park, Lollapalooza is a pretty hefty festival for the middle of a city that's made a bit of a comeback in recent years.
Notable Acts: The lineup hasn't been announced yet, but early hints suggest Justice, The Weeknd, Die Antwoord, and Jack White. A Twitter "leak" has also announced Metallica, Beyoncé, Sonic Youth, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers as headliners, but official sources have labeled it a hoax. Who knows?
Types of People: A little bit alt-ier than top 40, but not as much as the Pitchfork crowd or stylistically gauche.
Pros: It's easy to get there and Chicago is a pretty interesting city. Plus, has festival organizer and Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell ever done you wrong?
Cons: The scheduling is always a little hectic. To avoid crowding in one specific area, the lineup (which is similar but not as strong as Coachella's) tends have some conflicting acts.
