- About this event
To our excitement, Shaun White's unique music and snowboarding festival AIR + STYLE returned to Los Angeles for a third consecutive year Feb 18-19th, 2017. Most music festivals take place in the spring and summer, but since snowboarding is half of the fun, this festival understandably schedules its run during the coldest part of the year (relatively speaking, in L.A.) which breaks up the mostly awards show filled season.
Though an intense storm took over the city a day prior (including a much talked about sinkhole), the weather cleared up just in time for the two-day festival which was held at Exposition Park in Downtown L.A. Music acts included Flume, Chromeo, Major Lazer, Zhu, Atmosphere and many other eclectic performers spread over two stages, while a 16 story big air ramp dominated the space's visual landscape. The L.A. stop included snowboarders Mark McMorris, Max Parrot, Seb Toots and others, and competitions were intertwined with the musical performances taking place throughout the weekend.
In between the stages stood food venues (including Ridges churro ice cream truck, yum), a tucked away skateboarding ramp, several beer gardens, and art collaborations. We were impressed with the logistics of the venue, which was spacious but comfortable, and enjoyed the various additions such as Hansen's House where artists painted murals on the spot.
Music wise, while Flume was a fun headliner for Saturday, it was Atmosphere and Chromeo who really blew us away (we spent most of our time at the Winter Stage where these acts all played).
You wouldn't believe it, but below is a limited gallery (really). There was just so much to capture that we could only include a small sampling. Enjoy, and if you didn't make it out this year, there's always next year!
