Lesson Two: The eBay Get Rich Quick Scheme
Surveying the people exiting the store, I noted countless couples and groups of friends with no less than 5 lime green shopping bags stuffed with Marni goods of all shapes and sizes. These people were wearing gross sweatsuits and sneakers and were clearly not your typical Marni customers. Then I did a quick survey of the people in line; there were about 5 or 6 fashionable looking ladies were mixed with a crowd of dudes, mom's with strollers and, well, Uggs. I'm not even going to apologize for assuming that if you're wearing glorified slippers in public (it was 70 degrees outside), the first time you heard the name Marni was when it was announced as a partner in this collaboration.
After watching one of the Ugg wearers assess her printout of the entire collection, she beckoned over this guy who seriously gave me the creeps. Mr.Creepy then walked up to another girl on line (she was wearing sweatpants
and Uggs) to discuss some serious matter. It was then that I finally figured out what was going on, I was standing in line with people that were not even interested in the collection- these people were here to make a profit. I began imagining that people in the store were updating their eBay accounts with the Marni goods before even getting to the register.
