Last night, a small gathering of L.A.'s fashionista crowd turned up at the W Hotel in Westwood to preview the new Fall/Winter 2010 collection for Jeffrey Sebelia's Fluxus line. This wasn't the runway show you'd expect for L.A. Fashion Week, but rather an installation show with avant garde mannequins--a mode of presentation that seems to be the fad these days with designers.
As part of W Happenings' event series, the fete served as the installation's opening reception. The showing was rather a small, with just three looks, two of which were created out of regular old newspaper à la "Project Runway" challenges. But then again head designer Sebelia was the show's season 3 winner, so he's well-versed at that sort of thing. And making it work: the two paper dresses were the talk of the party and so out-shined the other dress made of fabric.
Guests including designer Julia Clancey (whose show is next week) who came out to show their support sipped on wine and nibbled on appetizers as they tried to meander gracefully through the tight setting. This was no easy feat, as the event was hosted in a small space in the lobby near the restaurant and bar which was jam-packed with beautifully dressed adults and a 10-year-old girl who we must say had the best outfit of the night. She looked very stylish in her vintage dress with a fur vest thrown over. Très chic!
The wine was flowing rather loosely... so much so that they nearly ran out before the night really got popping. But an emergency run to Trader Joes put us back in business and everyone took full advantage of the vintages on hand, some maybe a tad too much. But it's not really aparty 'til someone drops a glass or two, right?
