Lets face it, it's cool to dork out and be connected with all the latest gadgets. And in no other setting is that more true than the official week-long celebration of all things social media. Fashionistas and designers have Fashion Week, while tech-savvy Tweeters have Social Media Week, which kicked off in our city Monday night with the opening party for Social Media Week L.A. 2010.
Monday night, Angelenos came together at Inner City Arts in downtown L.A. to celebrate the start of a week packed with parties, panels and mixers in honor of social media. The SMWLA opening event hosted sponsors, board members, experts and enthusiasts in the realm of social media for cocktails, music and presentations from some leading figures in innovation and creativity.
Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics treated guests to a private performance and spoke to the crowd on inner creativity and his book, The Business Playground which addresses the topic. Sir Ken Robinson, an expert in education in the arts, also appeared before the audience for an inspiring discussion on cultivating creativity and innovation.
A night of celebrating the creative spirit and arts was the perfect way to start off SMWLA. Guests left armed with some valuable insight and knowledge to take with them through the rest of the week and may even be implementing some new philosophies in the their future projects from what they learned. The festivities continue throughout the week so make sure to check out the SMWLA schedule of events to try and get in on the tech-social action!
