[At the corner of Fairfax and Wilshire Blvd.] It doesn't take much to start a fashion blog these days. All you need are a camera, a Wifi connection, and a closet full of rad clothes. It does, however, take a little more to blow up all over the internet and become the standard for everyone else who follows. LA's own Emily Schuman has done just that.
You'd think that working at a major fashion magazine would be enough "dream job" to keep a twenty-something girl satisfied, but Emily took her love of all things stylish one step further. Exactly two years ago today she launched Cupcakes and Cashmere, a blog that chronicles the more beautiful minutia of her very blessed life.
Since that first fateful post she has racked up quite a list of accomplishments:
Quit her job to blog full-time.
Was named ShopBop's "Favorite Blogger".
Scooped up a ton of sponsorships (among them local boutique Planet Blue and global brand Coach).
Attended New York Fashion Week season after season.
Starred in Style Sample's October 2009 cover story.
Guest blogged for Lucky magazine.
And last week beat out the Cut and the Sartorialist for Best Fashion Blogger in the Tenth Annual Weblog Awards.
And she accomplished all of that in between styling daily outfits, scouring the web for trend inspiration, crafting how-to beauty guides, and traveling, DIY-ing, and cooking up a storm. Dream jobs are not easy!
What we love most about Emily, though is not her amazing sensibility for great clothes, whether found at Barneys or Forever 21; nor is it her talent for taking crisp, artful photos of the details of her life; nor is it her unpretentious delivery of all this luxury. It's her love and knowledge of this incredible city and her ability to find beauty in even the most mundane trip to the candy store or the flea market.
