So we were reading something the other day about 'the Oscar curse'. Supposedly, once an actress reaches their career peak of winning an Academy Award, their personal life all falls to shit. The silly superstition got us wondering: is it the Oscar or the husband?
A few days ago, news broke that seemingly golden couple Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes are over. We thought, "No! Kate!! You two are Hollywood's standard of elegance and all that is perfect!" But reports are saying tension started when they worked on Revolutionary Road together. They just "grew apart".
In more scandalous and rapidly-developing news, Sandra Bullock's rebellious hubby, Jesse James, reportedly had an affair while she was off filming the flick that got her the gold. With a tattooed-up model, no less. And the 'curse' continued with other Best Actress winners like Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry and Reese Witherspoon.
Let's stop being superstitious losers and start thinking realistically, though... instead of a 'curse' ruining these actress' love lives, couldn't a possible explanation be that their husbands just couldn't deal with the pressure? They were intimidated? Maybe they were scared to live the rest of their life as Mr. Hubby of Academy Award Winner...
And if that's the case, these ladies are better off without them. Because those guys are apparently really insecure, and there are better catches out there. It is possible to find a guy who is proud of you and can deal with your fame. Helen Mirren has been happily hitched since 1997 and looks awesome, by the way. Nicole Kidman won her Oscar a year after she split from Tom, and now she's with Keith Urban. And Julia Roberts and Danny Moder have been living comfortably, away from the paparazzi, in New Mexico.
So, conclusion: it's not the statue in your hand you should worry about, but rather the guy on your arm.
