Everything You Need To Know This Week On L.A.'s Art Scene

Hello all! Hope you had a lovely week and are looking forward to the weekend, I know I am, I found some truly awesome stuff to see. It's important, before spring/summer/whatever is fully upon us to go and see some culture before we are completely distracted by pool parties and beach field trips. See you around!

Opening

1. Roberts & Tilton is hosting an opening for their exhibition of the painter Kehinde Wiley's work. This has the biggest buzz surrounding it right now and R & T always put on the most impeccably curated shows. This is a must see.

2. Kopeikin Gallery is in its new location in Culver City and is showing Rebecca Bird, whose show opens on Saturday night as well. Her pieces are always so intricate and thoughtful, I am really looking forward to seeing some new work.

3. Taylor De Cordoba is celebrating their 5 year anniversary this Saturday with a group show! Congrats Taylor De Cordoba, this is an exciting achievement and we can't wait for 5 more great years!

Ongoing

1. MOCA is still exhibiting their show entirely comprised of recent acquisitions. I like these shows the best because these are treasures that live, now permanently, in our city.

2. Speaking of treasures of the Southern California variety, the infamous Turner is still showing at the Getty and if you haven't seen it in person you are cheating yourself. The view from the gardens will be extra clear because of the rain we have been having. A lovely spring treat.

3. Richard Hawkins is still up at the Hammer, and talk about a must see show…Well, go see it and you will know what I mean.

News!

1. If you haven't brushed up on the current situation with Chinese artist Ai WeiWei's detention do so here. [Hyperallergic]

*Anecdotal story: I used to work at a gallery who didn't pay an artist. He called and threatened to use my skin as an art piece unless he got his money. My boss's response? At least you’ll be famous.
