Remember when doing drugs made you edgy? Nowadays, Silicon Valley nerds are microdosing between meetings, and everyone from Oprah to your mom smokes weed. (What the hell do we have to do to rebel around here?!)
Illicit substances are no longer cool, and if anything has put the bougie nail in their coffin it's "Brieing."
Yes, Brie - as in the cheese.
A new report from Metro UK explores the cheesy new drug trend, which sees middle aged ladies spiking their Brie wheels with MDMA during well-to-do dinner parties in an effort to let loose. Although "let loose," according to some of these stories, is definitely an understatement.
"Last time all the mums came over a civilized dinner party it ended with one of them wrapped up in the velvet curtains, one hallucinating at the bathroom wall and the others dancing to 90s rave music while playing bongos in the sitting room," one 42-year-old media exec told the publication (though she had apparently dosed hoisin duck pancakes for her guests).
Brieing seems to be the brainchild of one 50-something businesswoman and her girlfriends who, being MDMA newbies, decided to put the substance in cigarette paper and then wrap it in pieces of cheese. (It's unclear whether any EDM was involved.)
She now regularly hosts Brieing bashes at her London home and says, "It was such an intense experience. I am sure most of us at that party have done it with other friends so now wrapping MDMA in Brie seems to be a thing now... A year later and I have been invited to ‘brieing parties’ and people seem to think it was all a grand design but I assure you it was not. It is such a middle class way to take drugs, that is probably why it has taken off."
Kids, don't try this at home (because it's really f*cking lame), but if you do, make sure to brush up on the DOs and DON'Ts of rolling. Safety first - especially if you're lactose intolerant!
