Considering her vast wealth - and the current state of the economy in the UK - it's no wonder quite a bit of drama unfolded when it was revealed this past spring that Akshata held "non-domicile" status as an Indian citizen in the UK, meaning that she wasn't paying national income tax on earnings from abroad. Though her spokesperson said that she did not wish to denounce her citizenship of her native country, now that she's officially the wife of the Prime Minister we imagine she'll face even more pressure to become a UK citizen - and start paying up.
