There's just no title out there that sounds as arms-wide-open big as Editor-at-Large, no? Well between contributing to Tatler in the aforementioned role and heading up The Beauty Triangle, an events-led community building platform that aims to crack the code on the wellness world, Francesca Ogiermann-White is certainly doing big things.
Curious where you'll find this Londoner out and about, where she's popping off for an afternoon of shopping or which private members clubs she's hitting when?
Where are you from originally?
Sussex, near Brighton.
What brought you to London?
University - I studied at London College of Fashion before going onto do a degree in Curating at Central Saint Martins.
How long have you been here?
Since 2005 - I moved into my first flat in Fitzrovia when I was 19. It was a stone’s throw from Regent’s Park and I could walk to the old Conde Nast offices in 20 minutes.
What neighborhood do you call home?
De Beauvoir, which is close to the canal in Islington and has the most glorious Georgian architecture.
What's your job?
I’m Tatler’s Health & Beauty Editor-at-Large and I also founded a platform called The Beauty Triangle, which connects consumers with expert medical, aesthetic and holistic practitioners via panel discussions and wellness events.
What do you actually do all day?
Some days, I’m running around town interviewing plastic surgeons, viewing event spaces and trying out the latest hi-tech treatments… others, I’m sat behind my laptop with endless cups of coffee, thinking and planning. I need the balance.
Social smoker?
Back in my twenties…
Go-to pint?
I’m not a beer girl… but in a pub, it’s always a gin and tonic.
Crisp of choice?
Torres Iberico Ham.
Preferred pub?
Our local, The De Beauvoir Arms, does an amazing bavette steak and has a log fire burning in winter…. I’m also quite into The Baring, which does the best Sunday lunch.
What's worth the wait?
A table at Towpath Cafe. Nothing beats a lunchtime spot in the sun watching canal boats chug past.
Tube or Boris bike?
Boris bike - cycling is a must when you live East. I bought a Tokyo Bike when we moved here and haven’t looked back.
Tesco or Sainsbury's?
Can I say Waitrose online? I love the efficiency.
Weekend getaway trip?
Whitstable - it’s the most idyllic seaside town on the Kent coast with the best oysters for miles.
Favorite restaurant?
Rochelle Canteen in Shoreditch. It’s set in the most beautiful garden and the food is exceptional.
Marmite or marmalade?
Marmalade… with plenty of salted butter.
British stereotype that rings true?
Endless rumination on the weather.
How do you take your tea?
Green.
Most British thing about you?
The way I speak. At least, according to my husband, who is German…
Least British thing about you?
Good teeth.
Remedy for a rainy day?
A bath, a book and a big glass of wine.
First thing you miss when you leave London?
The De Beauvoir Deli. I can’t go a day without buying something.
Private Members Clubs - yay or nay?
Soho House for work; George for after-hours.
Where in town are you almost always?
Harley Street! I spend an inordinate amount of time with doctors and surgeons….
Where in town would you never be caught dead?
Anywhere west of Chelsea - it’s just too much of a schlep.
Best place for a fun night out?
The club at The Twenty Two. The negronis are lethal - and I’m obsessed with the red velvet upholstery.
How would you describe your style?
Minimal, tonal, very rarely practical.
Top shopping spots?
Marylebone High Street (Daunt Books for beautiful novels and the Conran Shop for homeware, followed by Granger for lunch). Or Soho (Sunspel for t-shirts, Lina Stores for fresh pasta and Alex Eagle for basically everything).
What's your greatest extravagance?
Blow-dries - I practically live at Salon Sloane and Hershesons. Good hair has a way of making you feel infinitely more pulled together.
Cheap thrill?
Maltesers.
Who's your favorite person in town?
My best friend, Alice, who has the filthiest sense of humour and the best taste in jewellery. Her range of Memo Press stationery is pure joy.
What's your most overused Briticism?
“Gosh.”
Reading anything good at the moment?
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, by Ocean Vuong.
What are you most excited for next?
Exploring new horizons with The Beauty Triangle. Next up is an event series in Dubai, then we’ll be full-speed ahead planning for our 2025 Wellness Festival in London. Maybe next we’ll head to New York….
