What does it take to gain the nickname of The House that Ate the Hamptons? Apparently, nothing short of Ira Rennert's 39 bathrooms, 29 bedrooms, and 63 acres in Sagaponack will clinch the title.
With tiled ceilings and fountains galore, the property has been described as its own "place of worship." But don't worry, there's still room for a playhouse and, oh yeah, a temple. Said Ivy Barsky, the Deputy Director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage (for which the Rennerts hosted a dinner this past weekend):
"I'd heard about it, but then to walk in there! There were people that had substantial means and beautiful homes, but I think everyone had their jaws drop in the synagogue."
But it's not all rainbows and butterflies. Unfortunately, the town of Southampton has been giving the Rennerts a hard time about installing an additional and clearly necessary outdoor bathroom. I mean, how dare they?
