Whoever thought monograms could be so political?
The other evening, strolling around East Hampton, I was surprised to find in the storefront window of the famous Monogram Shop a bar cart prominently stocked with Trump 2020 plastic cups and cocktail napkins. Now, seeing no other napkins in sight, I jumped to the conclusion I think most would. That here was just another Hamptons disappointment (à la the boat marinas in Montauk filled with Trump flags).
But alas, I was shockingly, wonderfully mistaken!
The past few election seasons, The Monogram Shop has embarked on a local polling project likely more accurate than Gallup's. So what do they do, might you ask? The shop simply keeps track of which candidate sells the most cups.
As their last update from the race stands, from August 7th, Biden can be seen comfortably holding an 1,000 cup lead over Trump. But most interesting? As noted in the shop's caption, "this semester the cups/ either side/ have not sold as robustly in years past," finishing that they don't pretend to know what that means.

Certainly, it can't mean that people are as inspired one way or the other in comparison to elections past. Which isn't necessarily the best of news.
