Come for the paella, stay for the people. That was largely the story this past Saturday at our private sandy shindig out in Montauk. As if grabbing a spot at The Crow's Nest weren't task enough, we closed down the Beach Bar for a more than worthy cause.
In celebration of Oliver Peoples' newly opened East Hampton boutique, GofG welcomed the classic eye brand out East with a fête fit for the loveliest of summer nights. After modeling an iconic assortment of Oliver Peoples shades, guests settled in for a beachfront sunset, with paella prepared by chef couple Cristian Gonzalez and Carolina Ferpozzi, The Crow's Nest's seasonal Uruguayan experts renowned for stirring up salivatingly savory pans of squid, shrimp, chorizo and rice at the picturesque beach bar.
A GofG friends and family affair, the whole evening was a people watching spectacle to say the least. Kyle Hotchkiss Carone immediately made a bee-line for the loungers, sunning himself in the oh so casual horizontal a la plage position. Girls writer Deborah Schoeneman unexpectedly ran into Jemima Kirke chasing round adorable son Memphis as he and a tribe of other fashionable tots hunted for hermit crabs. Public School's Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne checked in with Oliver Peoples pal and CEO David Schulte. Hannah Bronfman and Brendan Fallis twirled about on the beach for about five minutes to get the perfect Boomerang - you know, as couples do. Roman and Williams designers cum semi-pro paella connoisseurs Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch stumbled in a bit too late to empty pans, having been shoveled up by everyone else. Nightlife genius Serge Becker and wife Meriem Soliman swapped their usual Miss Lily's reggae vibes for a soundtrack of exotic Colombian canciones. Otto Bell chatted up friends on his critically pegged for greatness documentary "The Eagle Huntress."
All in all, sounds an okay night, no?
