The Seafood Shop in Wainscott is known for many things - their beautiful iced buffet of fresh fish, their blackened tuna wraps and sesame noodles, multiple cameos as a shopping destination on The Barefoot Contessa - but these days it's their guacamole that's got people talking...
The pint-sized market has been serving the discerning Hamptons crowd for over thirty years.
And certainly, as is the case of costs with all things out East, no one would ever accuse them of giving their stuff away. But still, $29 for a pound of guacamole!?
Last week, Joe Marino Jr. went viral on TikTok for posting a short video commenting on the absurdity of a $29 tub of guac from The Seafood Shop.
As you can imagine, the world was so not here for this price gouging.
Now, in true Hamptons I-don't-give-a-shit form, The Seafood Shop is doubling down. Yesterday, they posted two videos to Instagram. The first was a Reel of pictures with Jimmy Fallon which read, "For those asking about our guacamole... our friend Jimmy just dropped by to get some a couple of days ago. He said it was the best he's tried in The Hamptons! P.S. We're all out of stock! So you'll have to wait to try some..." And the second was a Reel of how their guacamole is the absolute best in The Hamptons.
Interestingly enough, as bold and brash a statement as they're obviously trying to make, both videos, though still posted, have been hidden from the shop's Instagram grid. So clearly they get they're being sassier than they'd care to own up to.
Also, you so know Jimmy Fallon had no idea when he posed for that photo that he was going to be the poster boy for this GuacGate class warfare drama. Which, I think might be the funniest part of all of this.
Either way, you so know that the guacamole here is now the status symbol of the summer, so start saving up!
