Round Swamp Farm in East Hampton has the best chicken salad I have ever tasted. I didn't get a chance to try anything else in the place as I was in a rush to get out...it was Saturday and they had closed an hour ago (though there were still several people like me rushing to grab their famous homemade concoctions).
Started by Carolyn Lester Synder over 40 years ago, Carolyn's father, Albert Lester, who inherited the 20-acre, 250-year-old Round Swamp family farm, built her a small red stand to peddle her goods, and she'd wait for someone to stop for a cucumber or a few ears of corn.
"Today the produce of Round Swamp Farm, and the fruit of that produce (carrot cakes and zucchini breads, chutneys, sweet and hot pepper relishes, pickles and salsas, fruit jellies and jams, cobblers, pies and muffins), together with the Round Swamp fish market (stocked by Harold and Charlie Niggles, Lisa's husband), support six households."[From Saveur]
