Why did you want to start Salon 21?
Alex Bass: I decided to attend college in NYC to pursue my interest in both art and business. By being in the city, I’ve been introduced to many talented creative friends and friends of friends. I’d also find myself walking around Chelsea and the Lower East Side trying to introduce myself to new galleries and artists, and typically found myself disappointed in what was on display. I felt that the artists I was meeting were doing much more exciting and unique work that should be given a platform. The birth of Salon 21 came from a combination of my desire to showcase contemporary art that I gravitate towards and build a space for like-minded creatives in the NY area to socialize and network.
