ArtHamptons Lets It All Hang Out

The eastern end of Long Island has long been renowned as an artist enclave, but while its galleries and museums house shows and collections of a caliber far beyond that of typical small towns, until now its art shows have been decidedly absent from the international scene. ArtHamptons, open Friday through Sunday from noon to 6 on the grounds of the Bridgehampton Historical Society, is uniting pieces from over 55 galleries and 1,000 controversial and celebrated artists past and present under four tents.

In addition to admiring (or lusting after) Pollack, Matisse, or Miro, ticket holders will be able to attend a series of talks, panel discussions, auctions (one for a Warhol lithograph) and parties benefiting local institutions such as the Pollock-Krasner House and the East End Hospice. If you're interested in any period of art after 1880, or you think you might me, definitely check this out. A day pass to the fairgrounds is $20, while $300 will buy you and a friend an all-included Golden Passport.

THURSDAY, JULY 10 6- 9 p.m OPENING GALA/COLLECTOR’S PREVIEW Benefit party for American Heart Association $125 at the door. Honoring artist and printmaker Will Barnet. ArtHamptons and Artnet present the artist with a Lifetime Achievement Award. An original, signed, Will Barnet lithograph is auctioned. Sponsors: Art & Auction Magazine as well as Hamptons.com.

FRIDAY, JULY 11 Noon – 2 p.m. THE NEW YORK SUN Media Party. By invitation.

1 -2 p.m. PANEL DISCUSSION: “THE PASSION FOR POSSESSION: HAMPTONS COLLECTORS ON COLLECTING” Helen A. Harrison, director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center moderates a panel discussion including Ron Delsener, Henry Buhl, Larry Dubin, and Michael Senft. Book-signing by Helen Harrison, author of “Hamptons Bohemia: Two Centuries of Artists and Writers on the Beach.”

4 -6 p.m, BOOK SIGNING BY DAN RATTINER Dan reads from his collection of short stories entitled, "In the Hamptons." Dan's Papers hosts the advertiser party.

6 p.m. SILENT AUCTION RESULT A rare Lee Krasner serigraph goes to the highest bidder.

6 -9 p.m. THE BATTERS BOX BENEFIT COCKTAIL PARTY Celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Writers-Artists Softball game that benefits East End Hospice. $25 at the door. Alumni and present day participants in the Annual Game celebrate. Hosted by The Art Newspaper.

SATURDAY, JULY 12 1 -2 p.m. PANEL DISCUSSION: WHY YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT ART? Painter and sculptor Audrey Flack moderates a heated panel discussion of art world luminaries: artist April Gornik; David Brigham, Director, Pennsylvania Academy of Art; and curator Klaus Kertess.

AUCTION: “The Hartley Elegies,” a renowned lithograph by Robert Indiana, donated by Verve Gallery, is offered for auction and the proceeds go to the Relocation Fund of the local NPR affiliate, WLIU-Radio.

1 -1:45 p.m. LECTURE: SUCCESSFUL ART COLLECTING – INSIDER TIPS ON CHOICE STRATEGY AND VALUE

A pastel donated by the Gerald Melberg Gallery is auctioned, and the proceeds, in combination with the day's door are donated to Bridgehampton Historical Society.
