From Jenna Lyons to Jenne Lombardo, Lesbian-Chic Is The Hottest Trend This Year

When one thinks of "fah-shun" an image of Carson Kressley giving style advice to a pitifully helpless straight man comes to mind; or perhaps Tim Gunn saying "Make it work!" to a struggling designer; or Simon Doonan teaching us why gay men don't get fat; or even Derek Blasberg's bitingly witty commentary on the latest collections. But what about the gay women in fashion? From Jenna Lyons to Jenne Lombardo, lesbian seems to be the latest chic trend for Spring 2012.

Let's take Jenna Lyons for example - after being reamed into for painting her young son's toenails hot pink, the J. Crew president and creative director was then again slammed (by some) for leaving her husband of nine years for another woman, Courtney Crangi, also known for her impeccable style.

Then, just this week, it was reported by Page Six that Jenne Lombardo, known for her work as W Hotel's global fashion director and creating M.A.C.'s partnership with Milk Studios, has split with her girlfriend Jenny Shimizu (a model linked to Angelina Jolie) to move on to Morgan Collett. Morgan (male) is the co-owner of the booming Saturdays Surf NYC franchise.

Before Jenny, Jenne was linked to Ric Pipino, a celebrity hairstylist and Heidi Klum's ex-husband. The pair had three children together but never married.

But team Jenn (Jenna and Jenne) are not the only moms getting frisky with the ladies.

There's the supermodel couple of Arizona Muse (the face of YSL) and Freja Beha Erichsen (Chanel model). There's even a tumblr dedicated to the romance, titled (somewhat curtly) "Freja And Arizona Are Fucking." The Dutch Freja Beha has been out for some time now, she dated Catherine McNeil before Arizona. But Arizona has a son named Nikko, who was born in 2009, leading us to believe her lesbianism might be a fairly new thing.

With prominent women in fashion like Coco Chanel, and supermodels of yesteryear, Rachel Williams, Patricia Velasquez and Gia Marie Carangi, who all made their own gay waves back in the day, and now with openly lesbian women like DJ Samantha Ronson, singer Beth Ditto, actress Amber Heard, and other models like Jessica Clark and Catherine McNeil, the ladies that are influencing the fashion world aren't afraid to show their female love.

The moral of the story: Lesbians can be stylish. Very stylish. And just like the gay man has become a quintessential staple in the fashion industry, the lesbian woman is now making her own mark.
