Inside the Exhibit
Karl Lagerfeld reinvented the contemporary portrait with "Fire Etchings." The futuristic technique of printing with fire and acid was invented by Lagerfeld himself.
“Nothing is more exciting than something new — a new material, a new spirit, a new technique, a new point of view, a new expression, a new feeling” Karl Lagerfeld
The exhibition contrasts the fire etchings with a different series of delicate 1996 portraits. Lagerfeld created these portraits on handmade paper, using a technique from early photography: tinting black-and-white photos with honey and rubber.
