Support Community Growth

Maybe you taught SAT prep for a few months at a local high school, or consistently recycle your PBR cans, but here, in the city, you're not making much of a difference. If you move out to Detroit you can help rebuild a community that actually needs community gardens, businesses, and infrastructure. Try volunteering at a local community center like the Ruth Ellis Center for LGBTQ youth or just putting in the time and energy to bring a historic building up to code. New York doesn't need or want you but maybe (as long as you are working to become a serious community member and not a voyeuristic gentrifier) Detroit does.
