Girls

Girls
Airing on HBO, Girls is executively produced by Judd Apatow, who discovered Lena and the series at South by Southwest in 2011. The first season premiered April 15, 2012 and it has since become a hit. The show follows a group of New York City girls in their 20s. The story closely follows Lena Dunham's real life, showcasing her as a writer trying to make it in the real world. The show has often been compared to Sex and the City; however, it is commended for being less escapist and more accurate to how girls in their 20s really live in the New York. John Cook of Gawker gave a negative review of the show, saying Girls is:
"a television program about the children of wealthy famous people and shitty music and Facebook and how hard it is to know who you are and Thought Catalog and sexually transmitted diseases and the exhaustion of ceaselessly dramatizing your own life while posing as someone who understands the fundamental emptiness and narcissism of that very self-dramatization."
