Personal Style
A front-row staple at London Fashion Week, Marina may be a musician first but her style is definitive. Seeing as she cites "toys, dolls, romance, Gothic culture," and icons from Gwen Stefani to Marie Antoinette as sources of inspiration, eclectic would be an understatement when it comes to her wardrobe. Indeed, she considers fashion to be an integral part of her career:
"I always see it as an extension of my sound, a bit like the 3rd dimension of my performances. Without videos and image, music and artistry is quite 2D."
Like any artist, her style has evolved over the years. While "vintage, cheerleader, and cartoon" were her self-describing words of choice back in 2010, in a more recent interview with StyleCaster, she says
"I felt the first album was so pop art and really brash that I’ve kind of stepped away from that so I’ll probably be sticking to very soft, feminine colors."
These days, Marina seems to be channeling the 1950s, with high-waisted pencil skirts and vintage silhouettes that make her look like she'd fit right in with The Pink Ladies. [Photos via, via]
