Simon Burch And James Lavelle Curate 'Daydreaming with... The Hong Kong Edition'

Last Friday saw the opening of the Simon Burch and James Lavelle curated art show, Daydreaming with… The Hong Kong Edition. Daydreaming with… is rebellious and hip, much like its curators. A multi-sensory experience that is anything but conventional, the exhibition is a subtle explosion of visuals, ambient sounds, textures and smell. Uniquely set against black curtains in a dimmed out space, the exhibition feels like the Eyes Wide Shut set team were left in charge—a fresh break from the usual blinding fluorescents of an art gallery.

Despite the red carpet, a guest list of international who’s whos, photographers and a lot of security throughout the exhibition space, guests at the vernissage could not tear their eyes away from the art on display. (Yet another reason why the literal and proverbial theme of darkness is so genius.)

If Daydreaming with… The Hong Kong Edition is any indication of the quality and creativity that Hong Kong is to expect from the art community this year, then the Hong Kong International Art Fair (ART HK) co-presented with Art Basel will be a mind-blowing experience.
