Tell us a little about your creative influences (artists and otherwise.)

My world was initially shaped by literature. I discovered very early the work of Baudelaire, Maupassant, Buzzati - but also Matheson, Lovecraft, Borges, Garcia Marquez, Murakami. I guess that reflects my tendency to the bizarre and surreal…later I discovered the drawings of the masters of European comics, like Moebius, Manara, Bilal, etc...it was an aesthetic revelation to me, because I discovered that you could tell any story, as beautiful or terrible as it is, with drawings.

Might you be able to share with us a work of yours that has a personal story associated with it?

There are many...but one of the latest is “L'ascension du Mont Ventoux (The Velociraptor Revealed)”. I first went to the Mont Ventoux after reading "The ascension of the Mont Ventoux" by Petrarch, which is, by the way, the first modern description of climbing a mountain. I was very impressed by the lunar, actually completely alien landscape that you discover near the summit. But I was also very well accompanied on this trip, so it's also a memory of passion. As this is also an important stage of Le Tour de France, I get every year a friendly reminder to those happy moments.

What is your go-to boredom-doodle subject?

Sex.
